Alexander Zverev has reached the French Open last 16 after a hard-fought five-set victory over Tallon Griekspoor. The match went the distance, with Zverev eventually prevailing 6-2, 3-6, 6-3, 6-7, 6-3 in a match that lasted over three hours.
Zverev started the match strongly, taking the first set 6-2. However, Griekspoor fought back to win the second set 6-3. Zverev then regained the lead by winning the third set 6-3. Griekspoor leveled the match again by winning the fourth set in a tiebreak, 7-6.
The fifth set was a tense affair, with both players holding serve until the 12th game. Zverev finally broke through to win the set 6-3 and secure his place in the last 16. This win marks Zverev's first victory over Griekspoor in three meetings.
Zverev will now face Karen Khachanov in the last 16. Khachanov defeated Frances Tiafoe in straight sets to reach the fourth round. Zverev will be aiming to reach the quarterfinals of the French Open for the first time since 2021.
